What's included:
- 1x Sanavia Carbon Block Filter Cartridge ($50 value)
- 1x Sanavia 800G ROCB Filter Cartridge ($100 value)
Bundle saves you $25 vs. buying separately.
Recommended replacement every 12 months. Easy installation, no tools required. Reduces PFAS, lead, chlorine, chloramines, VOCs, and heavy metals.
What these cartridges do
The two cartridges are stages of one system, and Sanavia's guidance replaces them on the same twelve-month schedule, so buying them separately mostly means paying shipping twice and remembering twice. The bundle is the carbon block cartridge ($50) and the 800G ROCB cartridge ($100) for $125 — $25 less than buying them apart.
What it is up against here
The contaminants below are the ones these cartridges are sold as reducing, set against what EPA and EWG data actually show in water across DC, Maryland and Virginia.
- Chlorine and its byproducts
- Chlorine reacting with organic matter from the Potomac is what forms trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids. Across the systems we hold EPA data for, those two sit further above EWG's health guidelines than anything else measured — and they form in the pipes after treatment, not at the plant.
- Chloramines
- DC Water and WSSC both disinfect with chloramine rather than free chlorine, because it survives a long distribution network. It is also what gives treated water its flat, faintly chemical taste, and it is more corrosive to old household plumbing than chlorine is.
- PFAS
- EPA's most recent national monitoring round found PFAS in supplies across this region. EWG's health standard for PFOA is 0.09 parts per trillion, against a federal limit of 4 ppt that is not enforceable until 2029 — the gap between legal and safe, in one contaminant.
- Lead
- Lead does not arrive from the treatment plant. It comes off the service line and the household plumbing between the main and the tap, which is why two houses on the same street can test differently — and why the fix has to be at the tap.
Not sure which of these are in your water? Look up your city’s testing record.
When to replace it
One bundle is one year of maintenance under Sanavia's twelve-month guidance. Ordering both at once is the easiest way to make sure the second cartridge does not get put off until the first one is long overdue.
Usage moves the date either way. A larger household, or water carrying more sediment, gets through cartridges faster than the calendar suggests.
Questions, answered.
Both replacement cartridges: one Sanavia Carbon Block Filter ($50 value) and one 800G ROCB Filter ($100 value), for $125. That is the full set the system takes, at $25 less than ordering them separately.
Sanavia's guidance is to replace both cartridges every 12 months, so one bundle covers a year of normal household use. Heavier use or water carrying more sediment shortens that.
Yes, which is the reason the bundle exists. They are two stages of one system on the same replacement schedule, so changing them together keeps the whole unit performing as it should rather than leaving one stage doing the work of two.
No. Both cartridges fit the standard Sanavia RO housing and install without tools — twist the spent cartridge out, twist the new one in.
