What Adam covers
- How big it is
- Adam measures it at about 15 by 6.5 by 17.5 inches. There's no tank, so it fits in the cabinet beside the garbage disposal.
- Installing it
- He installs it himself in his South Carolina home with the included instructions. In the DC area you can also have our team install it.
- The faucet and controls
- The faucet comes in the box, and the display on top shows a live TDS reading of the filtered water.
- How the water tastes
- Filtered water on demand, straight from the faucet, with no tank for it to sit in.
- The five filter stages
- Sediment, carbon, carbon block, the reverse osmosis membrane, and a post-filter.
- Upkeep, returns and warranty
- Both cartridges are changed about every 12 months; the filter bundle is $125. Returns are accepted for 60 days, and the warranty is 3 years.
Questions people ask
For most kitchens, yes, if cabinet space and fresh water matter to you. A tankless system like the Hydra filters water the moment you open the faucet instead of storing it in a tank, so it frees up the cabinet and never runs out the way a tank can. It costs more up front than a basic tank system. The Hydra makes up to 800 gallons a day through five filter stages.
About 45 minutes for most people, plus an automatic 30-minute rinse before the first glass. The installation guide walks through each step.
No. The faucet, tubing and fittings are in the box, and Adam installs his himself with the included instructions. You need an outlet under the sink. If you'd rather not do it yourself, professional installation is available in the DC, Maryland and Virginia area: $1,250 installed, or $999 to install it yourself.
Both cartridges about every 12 months. The filter bundle with both is $125, and changing a cartridge takes under two minutes: twist it, pull it out, and push the new one in.
In independent accredited lab testing of an Arlington, VA home's tap water, total trihalomethanes (byproducts of chlorine treatment) fell from 58 ppb to 2.79 ppb after the Hydra, a 95% reduction.
Shipping is free in the U.S., you can return it within 60 days for a full refund with no restocking fee, and it has a 3-year warranty.
